“A connoisseur of pop art influences”
-REALDETROIT WEEKLY (9/4/07)

"All that Detroit lacks in public transport, pro football and blue skies is easily swept under the carpet with the seemingly endless supply of talented new artists, visual and otherwise. The Creative People’s Network brings us together to admire the works of painters like Matthew Craven, whose artistic modes and bold colors capture and then rapture the eye and mind."
-REALDETROIT WEEKLY (1/24/07)
“A Hamtramck resident of some standing, Craven uses a variety of materials in his pieces- acrylic, latex, oil and even colored yarn- and from such tools he fashions a veritable universe of bizarre perspectives and astonishing lines. Described as "playfully engaging pop art"- Craven's oeuvre is in a groove all its own."
-REALDETROIT WEEKLY (5/3/06)
"Some might describe the work of Hamtramck resident Matthew Craven as trippy water worlds of floating sea creatures. Others might see puffy clouds bloated with feverish swirls of rain. Either way, Craven's bizarre style comes from incorporating several techniques and media, including yarn stitching and spray paint. In his latest show, he composes vibrant pop art pastiche-like pattern-on-pattern quilts: Decorative elements — as traditional as Victorian wallpaper and as twisted as small intestines — are patched together to engaging and endearing ends.
